While the travel industry is on-hold with the widespread and contagion of the coronavirus, we believe that not only will this be a temporary situation, but also that travel behaviors will change because of it. In past posts, we have written about emerging vacation rental trends such as traveling with your pet or sustainable travel. And now, we have a new prediction of a trend: disinfected travel! Take this downtime of social distancing to make sure your vacation rentals are equipped for the ultimate germ-free vacation experience. Here are some of our thoughts on what will be essential to future travels.

  • Disinfect every surface of your vacation rental.

Previously, we have recommended cleaning and scrubbing all sinks/counters, appliances, bathrooms, etc. Now, we want to expand to include all surfaces that people touch, such as light switches, remote controls, door knobs, keypads, etc. Also be sure to sanitize your furniture; you can use something like Woolite Advanced on couches, outdoor furniture, and more.
  • Get rid of germ collecting extras OR replace them for a more cleanly alternative.

Items such as throw blankets and throw pillows or books and games are hotbeds for germs in between guests. We recommend either eliminating them entirely or checking out some of these easy-to-clean options:
    • Throw Blankets and Pillows
    • Books and Games
      • Instead of books, try getting a Kindle Fire 7 Tablet for guests. It is easy to disinfect, and you could pair it with Kindle Unlimited, so guests can download unlimited books for only $10 a month to you.
      • For games that can be easy cleaned, try Blokus or Rummikube, since they both have plastic pieces you can wipe down.
